(Chris Spealler doing "Seven", 19:06 PR)
Ok, as I sit down I have to write down all that I remember about today's course before I forget. First of all it was dyn-O-mite!
Chris Spealler (CrossFit Park City/3rd place CrossFit Games) opened up the morning with the intro at CrossFit Strong and what to expect from this weekend of The Coaches Prep Course. Then Adrian Bozman (CrossFit San Francisco) went over "Point of Performance" (what to look for and how to cue these areas). A lot of talk but it quickly turned into application on the floor.
We had so much time on the floor today and we were engaged the entire time. We worked on the all the 9 CrossFit fundamental movements and we watched for fault/errors in each others movement and how we conducted our instructional session to the group. We got back so much feedback. The first day is over and I already feel I've got my money worth.
I specifically taught the "Medball Clean" because I feel I suck at teaching this movement. I worked with Spealler on this then the next time I had the chance to teach this movement I did. I was coached by Adrian Bozman on this session and this is what I need to work on: 1) using less words to fill the gaps of instruction (no, "ok", "uh", etc, 2) demonstrate what I want and what I expect then talk. Don't talk and demo at the same time, 3) As I teach the movement don't get stuck in the beginning/progressive stages but get to the full movement then give the group some repetitions to practice this "new skill".
Post class
At the end of the day we were able to watch Spealler, Bozman, and Carswell do their workout. Spealler did "Seven" and Pr'd his time at 19:09 (old time +20:00). This Cat is amazing, he's a flat out machine and he was floored after it. I left and he was still on the floor. All I could do was give him a "hi-five" and give him props. No words could express how stoked I was to see him do this WOD. Hindsight I wish I would had ask to jump in with him.
