Mt.Shasta holds the Biggest Small Town fun run in the entire country. So that's pretty awesome to say you have been too. I ran the 5 mile race and it was terrible. Running 5 miles is no es bueno.
David and I started together at the front and once the gun went off everyone was out the gate. David was WAY ahead of me and for the 1st time I was pretty sure David was going to beat me this year, but.............he slowed down less than a mile into the race. We were about to our 1 mile mark and I finally passed him. Before the 1 mile mark I passed a girl puking. Right at the mile marker was the traditional Belly Dancers, they are always a joy to look at (i'm totally joking).
As the race went on I kept a pace that eventually slowed down but I was running hard the entire time. I found people to pace and people to stay with. But this race hurt. I was pretty sure I was tapped out about 4 miles but I kept on going. I was about 800m short and I flat started sprinting but that lasted maybe 250m until my legs started slowing down but it was the last 200m that I went all out. I even had a person racing me and he got me at the end but I went 100% all out. After all was said and done I finished at 36:00, 5th in my age group.
If you ever are thinking about a fun race, you should check out Mt. Shasta's 4th of July's fun run @ http://www.mtshastarunners.com/!
